Interim show prep. #2

Last week I spent a bit of time experimenting with ideas for the collage that I am planning to make for the interim show. As luck would have it there was a crit in the Zoom session on Thursday so I was able to discuss my plans with Sofi and Alex E. Both seemed quite enthusiastic about my ideas/ what they could see so that was encouraging.

I have kept with the idea of using computer architecture as my jumping off point but I am keeping it fairly abstract. I was looking at images of GPUs as I was making, but not seeking to accurately replicate. I had the idea of adding a layer of mylar to create a feeling of additional depth:

In these two a layer of mylar is laid over a white and blue background. The effect was ok but the mylar is more opaque than I had accounted for. I tried tracing paper instead and this was more satisfying:

Tracing paper is considerably cheaper than mylar which is a bonus. It’s also considerably weaker which will be a consideration as I scale up.

I have kept to the limited blue/ orange palette that I settled on when working digitally last week. I also experimented with adding in references to the fish that have featured in my work ever since Midjourney hallucinated them into my paintings.

I think that I will pick up some different, brighter blue paper to take to London. Maybe some silver as well.
