Interim show prep. #1

Last week I started sketching out some ideas for the collage piece that I am planning to make for the interim show. I started with some digital collages and will work up some physical tests this week.

I started with my original idea of riffing on the physical architecture of GPUs. I am probably going to build the collage in London using sugar paper so I started off with quite simple ideas, thinking about a limited palette and a couple of layers.

I then tried some using a combination of paper shapes and photographic imagery. These are quite good fun but are probably drifting too far from the materials available/ physical constraints of the build in London. They could, however, be useful material for my studio experiments scheduled for later in the term.

I then went back to the black sugar paper idea but started adding in some of the fish-shaped paper lantern imagery that has permeated my work over the last few months.

I think that these show promise but I need to work up some physical try-outs. I need to give some thought to the colour scheme as well. I’m quite enjoying the orange/ blue binary but I should probably experiment with options. I might try using tracing paper to create some layering.
